July 27 Meeting Highlights

Grey County Council met on July 27, 2023, in the Council Chamber and virtually on Zoom. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. Recordings of the meetings can be found on Grey County’s YouTube Channel.

  • Council accepted the minutes of the July 13 Grey County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings.  Council  Committee

Committee of the Whole

  • Members of the Supportive Outreach Services (SOS) team updated Council on the impact mobile clinics are having on the outcomes of vulnerable community members who are experiencing mental health and addiction challenges. SOS brings care to people who have a difficult time accessing social and healthcare services in traditional ways. By meeting people where they’re at, this innovative, multi-agency team is helping improve outcomes for those at risk across Grey County.  Presentation 1  Presentation 2  Promotional Video
  • Council received an update on Going Green in Grey initiatives. Council adopted the Climate Action Plan in 2023 and staff are working on projects that support two of the four foundational pillars and several other key next steps. Report
  • Council committed $1 million in support of the Grey Bruce Health Services Mental Health Wellness and Recovery Centre in Owen Sound. The commitment will be made over five years with the first $200,000 installation coming from the healthcare funding reserve this year. This centre will provide a range of on-site supports for clients and will provide a safe place to live during recovery. Report  Media Release
  • Council received a staff report about the Grey County Forest Management Plan. Council approved extending the harvest schedule for county-owned forests from 15 years to 25 years to allow for more regeneration. Harvesting will also be selective, focusing on appropriate forests while ceasing harvesting in forests where it is not feasible for ecological reasons or is hard to access. Staff will also explore carbon offset projects for County forests.  Report
