October 24 Meeting Highlights
Grey County Council met on October 24, 2024 in the Council Chamber and virtually on Zoom. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. A recording of the meeting can be found on the Grey County YouTube Channel.
County Council
- Council accepted the minutes of the October 10 County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings. Council Committee
- Council received the minutes of the June 28, July 26 and August 23 Grey Bruce Public Health Board meetings. Councillor Carleton gave a verbal update celebrating the opening of the regional dental clinic in Walkerton. June 28 July 26 August 23
Committee of the Whole
- Councillor Greig moved that per diem funding for alternate members of council be removed from the 2025 budget. Under the Municipal Act, each member municipality is entitled to designate one alternate from their council to attend Grey County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings if the Mayor or Deputy Mayor are unavailable. Council discussed virtual participation options, the value of in-person participation, and funding alternates at the local municipal level. The motion was defeated.
- Council ratified a proposed collective agreement with OPSEU Local 299 representing staff at Grey Gables and Lee Manor. OPSEU will be presenting the agreement to staff for a vote in the coming days. Report
- Council discussed correspondence from Georgian College regarding changes to Canada’s International Student Program. The Owen Sound Campus welcomes several international students who support our regional workforce during their studies and who achieve a high rate of employment following graduation. Warden Milne will write a letter of support for Georgian College to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), local MPs and MPPs highlighting the importance of international students in our community.
