Grey Gables

Grey Gables is warm, open, personal and pleasant.  Sixty-six residents call Grey Gables home, living in private, semi-private and basic rooms.  It is small enough to be intimate but large enough to provide a full range of programs and services.

Table of Contents

At Grey Gables, we understand that each resident’s quality of life depends on an approach to care that combines resident and family members’ wishes with individual assessments from a team of trained caregivers.  This approach ensures that support and care is tailored to meet the needs of each unique individual.  Our staff includes registered nurses, registered practical nurses, personal support workers and therapy aides to help, support and care for our residents.  An experienced administrative team supports all of our health care staff.

Residents are encouraged to bring small items such as bedspreads, pictures or knickknacks to personalize their rooms.

A home environment needs to be safe to feel secure so there are call bells at each bed, in each washroom and in all bathing spas.  Our building is completely equipped with heat and smoke detectors.

Behavioural Support Transition Unit (BSTU)

The 18-bed Behavioural Support Transition Unit (BSTU) at Grey Gables has been operating since March 2021. This specialized unit assists individuals living with dementia who experience more challenging responsive behaviours to develop strategies to live successfully in their preferred environment, whether in the community, retirement living or a long-term care home (LTC). Grey Gables also focuses on the rural perspective and experience of those utilizing BSTU services. The vision of the BSTU is to meet the needs of residents with responsive behaviours through enhancements to both care delivery and the physical environment. The BSTU leverages the strengths of specialized teams such as Geriatric Psychiatry and Behavioural Support Ontario mobile teams and builds upon the knowledge and resources which currently exists in LTC home settings.

Grey Gables utilizes a Colour It Your Way person-centred approach that adapts to the changing care needs of the resident. Staff embrace the mission, vision, and values of Colour It to support care delivery that is specific to the individual needs of the resident to live life their way.

For more information, please contact Nadine Muir, Behavioural Support Transition Unit Coordinator at 519-986-7576.
