Paramedic Services Week 2018

May 27 to June 2 is Paramedic Services week across Canada. The theme this year is “Health-Community-You”.

“The role of paramedics is expanding and we’re seeing that evolution right here in Grey County,” said Kevin McNab, Director of Paramedic Services with Grey County. “Paramedics continue to be the first line of care when 9-1-1 is called, but we’re also making our communities healthier by participating in dynamic community paramedicine programs, such as home visitations, remote patient monitoring and community clinics.”

Community paramedicine programs reduce the stress on emergency rooms and doctors’ offices by proactively caring for patients out in the community. Home visitations and remote patient monitoring programs care for chronic disease patients within their homes. Community clinics provide health monitoring, education and other resources for Grey County Housing tenants. Full program details are available online at www.Grey.ca.

Paramedic Week Events

Grey County has a series of events planned to give back and raise awareness of the role paramedics play in the community.

Leading in to Paramedic Services week, Director of Paramedic Services Kevin McNab and Community Paramedic Rick Trombley will appear on 92.3 The Dock morning show after the 8 a.m. news, and then on Open Line with Bill Murdoch at 9 a.m. on 560 CFOS.

On Monday, May 28, Grey County paramedics are volunteering their time to collect donations for the Hanover Salvation Army food bank. Shoppers can help ‘Stuff the Ambulance’ at Grant’s Independent Grocer. The drive runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is supported by John Thompson Movers, Bayshore Broadcasting and OPSEU Local 250. A second drive will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Bill's Valu-mart in Meaford.  Since 2010, more than 26,800 kgs has been collected through ‘Stuff the Ambulance’ food drives in Grey County.

On Tuesday, May 29, Grey County paramedics will be educating visitors at Keady Market. An ambulance and equipment will be on display and paramedics will be available answer questions.

Wednesday is the always emotional Second Chance Reunion Luncheon. Grey County reunites cardiac arrest survivors with the paramedics who helped save their lives. In 2017, Grey County paramedics resuscitated nine patients. Two babies were also delivered earlier in the year.
