2024 Road Construction Begins in Grey County
The 2024 construction season is here and Grey County is making a number of investments into county roads through construction and resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation and surface repairs.
Planned Projects
Planned construction timelines are a best estimate. Projects may be impacted by weather conditions and other delays. Municipal 511 contains up to date information on road impacts and closures.
Grey Road 3 and 4 roundabout – Work is scheduled from May to the end of August. This project will include paving Grey Road 4 from 1 km west of Grey Road 3 to .8 km east of Grey Road 3, and the construction of a roundabout at the Grey Road 3 and Grey Road 4 intersection. Total expected investment for this project is $3.3 million. Grey Road 3 will be closed at various times throughout construction with detour routes in place. Grey Road 4 will remain open. Grey Road 40 – Work is scheduled from May to the end of September. This project includes reconstructing an 8.3 km section of Grey Road 40 between Grey Road 7 and Grey Road 13 including culvert replacement, guide rail replacement and asphalt pavement widening. Total expected investment for this project is $4.21 million. Dependent on the contractor’s schedule, there is the potential for some short term, full closures during the work. An information session is scheduled for Thursday April 18, 2024 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Marsh Street Centre in Clarksburg.
Grey Roads 9 and 14 – Work is scheduled from mid-June to mid-September. This project will include reconstructing Grey Road 9 from Southgate Sideroad 7 to Southgate Sideroad 13, and Grey Road 14 from .9 km north of Southgate Road 24 to Grey Road 4. Total expected investment for this project is $4.79 million. The road reconstruction projects will have intermittent lane closures with traffic control, and possible intermittent full closures. An information session is scheduled for Thursday May 9, 2024 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Frank MacIntyre Building in Dundalk.
Grey Road 13 – Work is scheduled from July to the end of September. This project will include the reconstruction of Grey Road 13 between Sideroad 7B and Sideroad 13B, including culvert replacement, guide rail replacement, and asphalt pavement widening. Total expected investment for this project is $1.98 million. The road will remain open with intermittent lane closures. An information session is scheduled for Thursday May 23, 2024 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Euphrasia Memorial Community Centre (Rocklyn Arena).
Grey Road 16 from Concession 5 Derby/Concession 6 Chatsworth to Highway 6 &10 – Work is scheduled from mid August to mid October. This project will include paving and reconstructing a portion of Grey Road 16 and lowering the road just east of Concession 5 Derby to improve visibility. Total expected investment for this project is $1.02 million. Grey Road 16 will be closed from Concession 5 Derby / Concession 6 Chatsworth to Concession 5A for a three-week period during this project. Timing of this closure has yet to be confirmed but will be shared as soon as it is available. Other than this three-week closure period, the road will remain open throughout the project, with intermittent lane closures with traffic control. An information session is scheduled for Thursday June 6, 2024 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Keady Arena.
Bridge 9-349 Replacement – Grey Road 9, 1.5 km west of Grey Road 23 - Work is scheduled from July to the end of October. The project will include a complete replacement of bridge 9-349. The County has budgeted $1.53 million to complete this work which is currently out to tender. Grey Road 9 will be completely closed to through traffic from Southgate Sideroad 49 to Grey Road 23 for the duration of the contract. A detour route will be provided.
Be sure to plan your routes and allow yourself extra time to safely reach your destination if traveling through a planned construction zone. Always pay attention to signage and be extra cautious in areas of active construction when workers are present.
