April 11, 2025, Meeting Highlights

Grey County Council met April 10, 2025, in the Grey County Council Chamber and virtually on Zoom. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. A recording of the meeting can be found on the Grey County YouTube Channel.

County Council

  • Council accepted the minutes of the March 27 Grey County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings.  Council   Committee
  • Council accepted the minutes of the March 21 special joint meeting of councils between Grey County and all nine member municipalities. This meeting discussed shared planning services.   Minutes
  • Council accepted the minutes of the March 26 Long-Term Care Redevelopment Task Force meeting.  Staff provided a verbal update of the minutes speaking to construction progress of the new Rockwood Terrace long-term care home in Durham. The minutes also included a motion to contribute up to $1.7 million to the Municipality of West Grey related to construction of new underground stormwater infrastructure. This funding is included in the project budget. Minutes
  • Dr. Arra, Medical Officer of Health, provided a verbal update on the Health Unit. Dr. Arra spoke to Measles noting a case that attended a local ER. They are following up with all contacts. Council approved the Board of Health minutes for the January 24 meeting.  Minutes

Committee of the Whole

  • Council discussed a motion by Councillor Eccles to declare March 24th as Agnes Macphail Day. Council was not in favour of making a formal proclamation but spoke highly about Agnes Macphail’s legacy and would support more awareness through Grey Roots Museum and other means.
  • Julie Alexander of Enbridge Gas spoke of the company’s work as a utility and their role in sustainable energy solutions. Enbridge provides natural gas to 3.9 million people in Ontario. Enbridge also offers resources for building net zero homes and energy conservation retrofits. Enbridge also has offerings for municipalities to help meet climate action goals.  Presentation  Enbridge Website
  • Council approved the replacement of a damaged, end of life sand dome with a new structure at a cost of $1.8 million.  Report
  • Council received information on the Grey County Climate Adaptation plan and planned public engagement activities in the coming months. More information is available at www.grey.ca/climate-actionReport
  • Council endorsed the draft terms of reference and passed a motion to form a new Joint Municipal Services task force. This task force will look at shared approaches to address challenges that municipalities in Grey County experience. Report
