Collecting Ontario Works Cheques During the Possible Postal Strike

Update September 2, 4:30 p.m.

Cheques that were not picked up by clients by September 2 have been sent by mail. Please contact us with any questions.

Because of the potential Canada Post strike, September 2016 Ontario Works cheques will not be mailed and must be collected in person.

Ontario Works cheques will be available on Monday, August 29th during regular business hours. Clients can collect cheques at the County Administration Building, or the satellite office where they receive service. Be sure to have photo ID available.

Payments by direct bank deposit are not affected.

Using your Health Card for the Ontario Drug Benefit

As of September, residents who receive social assistances can use their Ontario health card to access the Ontario Drug Benefit program. Simply go to your pharmacy with the health card of the family member requiring a prescription.  Coverage under the Ontario Drug Benefit has not changed, only the way it is accessed.

An information sheet with more details will be mailed to clients but may be delayed by the potential postal strike. Clients can contact their Ontario Works caseworker if they have any questions.
