COVID-19 and Respiratory Outbreaks Declared Over at Grey Gables
Update November 6
On November 6, Public Health declared the COVID-19 outbreak on Pine Ridge and the suspected respiratory Outbreak on Maple Lane, over. After promptly identifying the symptoms, our team quickly implemented the necessary infection prevention and control measures to effectively contain the outbreak and reduce the risk of spread. We are grateful for their unwavering commitment to protecting the health of our residents. The Grey Bruce Public Health Unit played a key role in managing the outbreak, and we extend our sincerest appreciation for their valuable support.
The safety and wellbeing of our residents, families, and staff is our focus, and we will continue with regular infection prevention and control audits and hand hygiene audits. Given the current respiratory transmission affecting the community, and recent outbreaks, home wide universal masking (surgical mask) remains in place for all staff and visitors. On November 1, Public Health declared the COVID-19 outbreak over on the Valley View home area at Grey Gables. We would like to thank our team members for their continued dedication to the safety and well-being of our residents. Grey Bruce Public Health were valuable contributors to the management of the outbreak, and we are thankful for their guidance and assistance.
As a reminder, outbreak protocols remain in place as we manage the COVID-19 outbreak on the Pine Ridge home area and the suspect respiratory outbreak on the Maple Lane home area.
The following steps are in place:
- Increased surveillance, and enhanced infection prevention and control measures including audits and hand hygiene audits.
- All staff are following respiratory outbreak protocols and wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Home wide universal masking (surgical mask) is required for all staff and visitors.
- Additional Personal Protective Equipment is required when entering an isolation room and signage is posted at resident’s room.
- Residents in isolation are limited to 1 Designated Care Partner (DCP).
- General visitors are limited to 1 per resident on the Pine Ridge and Maple Lane home areas.

Yesterday (Sept 21), Public Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Pine Ridge home area at Grey Gables. There are two residents experiencing respiratory symptoms and test results have returned identifying the infectious agent as COVID-19. The affected residents are isolating and receiving care.
As a reminder, outbreak protocols remain in place for the Valley View home area as we manage the COVID-19 outbreak.
Enhanced infection control protocols are in place and the following steps have been implemented:
- Increased surveillance, and enhanced infection prevention and control measures including audits and hand hygiene audits.
- All staff are following respiratory outbreak protocols and wearing the appropriate PPE as required.
- Home wide universal masking (surgical mask) is required for all staff and visitors.
- Surgical masks or N95 masks are required when entering an isolation room.

Over the weekend, Public Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Valley View home area at Grey Gables. There are currently six residents who are experiencing respiratory symptoms. One test result has returned identifying the infectious agent as COVID-19 with five results pending. There is also one resident experiencing respiratory symptoms on Pine Ridge and we are working with our Public Health partners and closely monitoring the situation. The affected residents are isolating and receiving care.
Enhanced infection control protocols are in place as we take swift action to halt the spread of the virus. In response, we are taking the following steps:
- Increased surveillance, and enhanced infection prevention and control measures including audits and hand hygiene audits.
- All staff are following respiratory outbreak protocols and wearing the appropriate PPE as required.
- Universal masking (surgical mask) has been implemented for all staff and visitors on the Valley View and Pine Ridge home areas.
