February 10, 2022 Meeting Highlights

Grey County Council met virtually on February 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. for the regular session of council. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. Recordings of the meetings can be found on Grey County’s YouTube Channel.

County Council

  • Council accepted the minutes of the January 27 County Council and Committee of the Whole Meeting.  Council  Committee
  • Council accepted the minutes of the January 28 Special Budget Meeting. Council also passed the 2022 budget by-law to set the 2022 budget.  Minutes   Budget

 

Committee of the Whole

  • Council heard a presentation from Paul Wagenaar of the United Way and Jill Umbach of the Poverty Task Force to discuss food security in Rural Ontario. One in five homes in our community are without reliable access to food.  Presentation
  • University of Guelph students will be completing two Grey County-based studies. The first project will focus on green development standards and what Grey County policies could look like to support climate action. The second project will focus on creating a guide to help explain the need for and benefits of including higher density housing in community planning. Report
  • Paramedic call volumes have increased by 22% over the past five years with 2022 being an all-time high for the County. In 2022, Grey County met or exceeded targets in five of six call categories. In the ‘CTAS 2’ category, response times were met nearly 89% of the time with a goal of 90%. Report
  • Grey County will tender the reconstruction of a bridge on Grey Road 27 (Durham Road West).  The project was initially scheduled for 2023 but has been moved up in order to address water and waste water servicing pressures. The project is substantially funded from development charge revenues. Report
  • Council awarded a tender for the replacement of a culvert on Grey Road 3, east of Grey Road 9. The project will cost $1.35 million.  Report
  • At the January 27 Committee of the Whole meeting, Council voted to form a Mental Health and Addictions Task Force.  The goal of the task force is to examine the current system of treatment and support for individuals suffering from mental health and substance use disorders.  Council approved the terms of reference for the committee and appointed council members and public members to serve on the committee.  Report   Media Release
