Fire Incident at Rockview Apartments, Owen Sound
At 4:32 PM on Saturday afternoon, June 15, the Owen Sound Fire Department, Owen Sound Police, and Grey County paramedics responded to a fire in a ground floor unit at Rockview Apartments, a two-story building comprising 20 units.
The fire is believed to have started due to unattended cooking oil on the stove top. Fortunately, it was contained to the unit of origin. Unfortunately, the unit where the fire started has been destroyed, with heavy smoke and water damage affecting adjacent units.
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified of the incident. Repair costs and the timeline for tenants to return home are currently unknown.
All tenants have been safely evacuated and are being assisted by Grey County Housing staff. Victims Services Grey Bruce has provided temporary housing for displaced tenants.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Owen Sound Fire Department, police, and paramedics for their swift response and assistance during this incident.
