Grey Gables Respiratory Outbreak Declared Over
Update March 8 - We are pleased to report that the Respiratory Outbreak on the Valley View home area at Grey Gables has been declared over. We would like to thank Grey Bruce Public Health for their assistance in managing the outbreak. The teamwork at Grey Gables has been remarkable, and we thank the team for their dedication and commitment. The team quickly identified symptoms and prevented further spread using ongoing infection prevention and control measures.
We continue to focus on the safety of our residents, families, and staff. As a precaution, we will continue with the following protocols:
- Regular infection prevention and control audits
- Hand hygiene audits
- Daily screening and rapid antigen testing for all staff, students, support workers, volunteers, designated care partners, and indoor visitors.

Please continue to follow the 3 Ws: Wash your hands frequently; Watch your distance (ideally 6 feet); and, Wear masks correctly. On February 16th, Public Health has declared a respiratory outbreak on the Valley View home area at Grey Gables. There are currently two residents experiencing respiratory symptoms, they are isolating and receiving care. One test result has returned and the virus has been identified as Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
We are working with our Public Health partners and monitoring the situation closely. The home has activated their outbreak protocols and the following enhancements are in place to help manage the outbreak:
- Increased surveillance, and enhanced infection prevention and control measures.
- Infection prevention & control audits, and hand hygiene audits.
- Residents of Valley View have been cohorted to that home area.
