Grey Roots Launches New Concert Series

Grey County – Grey Roots Museum and Archives is proud to present Our Roots Are Showing, a unique new concert series exploring local culture, geography, and history which features talented local artists. Through music, poetry, and storytelling, with visuals presented on the big screen of Grey Roots’ theatre, each performance will take audiences on a journey to better understand themselves and their neighbours.

The series kicks off on March 30 with Two Singers and A Poet featuring singer-songwriters Larry Jensen and Dave Hawkins with poet Rob Rolfe. Together, these storied and seasoned artists shine a light on life in Grey-Bruce from perspectives rooted in local knowledge and worldly experience.

On April 27, journalist, photographer, and fiddler Will Henry presents stories and songs from his book Juggling the Notes. With live music, a slideshow of photographs taken over 40 years, and excerpts from his book, Will offers a glimpse into traditional music culture that few have ever seen.

Young and gifted singer-songwriter Camryn Ruthven presents The Scottish Gaelic Diasporas: Healing Through Reclamation on May 25. Uniting her passions for music and history, Camryn explores the Gaelic lineage through song. Camryn weaves her own creative tapestry through poetry, songwriting, vocal improvisation, and instrumentation.

The series closes on June 22 with Wiarton-based rocker Josh Ritchie and his band. Josh will perform highlights from his album Love at the End of the World and more. Josh admires music with purpose, and as a young and ambitious person of colour, he takes pride in weaving themes of topical social issues into his work.

Each presentation in the Our Roots Are Showing Concert Series is held in the Grey Roots theatre on a Thursday evening. The series runs every four weeks starting on March 30. Each show will be up to 90 minutes long including intermission. Tickets may be purchased for individual shows, and a Series Pass is available at a discounted price until March 30. Admission to Grey Roots Museum & Archives is included. Tickets on sale now at greyroots.com.
