Grey Roots Museum & Archives Calls on Community to Share Historic Photographs
Grey Roots is calling on community members to help preserve Grey County history. Over the next few months, local historian Richard J. Thomas will be hosting a series of Historic Photo Submission Days and digitizing community sourced images for Grey Roots Museum & Archives. Photos may be included in the upcoming exhibition Living Histories: Grey County, guest curated by Thomas and opening in January 2026.
The first submission day will be held on Saturday, March 29 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Meaford Public Library. More collection days are planned for April in Hanover, and May in Grey Highlands, with locations and times to be announced soon.
"Historical photographs provide invaluable glimpses into our shared past," said Thomas. "By digitally preserving these images, we make sure that the stories they tell can be shared with future generations.”
During these events, Thomas will scan images to make a digital copy. The original photo will be returned to the owner, and the digital copy may be added to the Grey County Archives collection. Contributors can share the story behind their photos. Grey Roots may also ask permission to research their historical context.
Participants will have a chance to win a family membership to Grey Roots Museum & Archives. The prize draw will be held after the final submission day.
Living Histories: Grey County will feature a curated selection of historical photographs from the County archive, local museums, and private collections. It will offer visitors a visual journey through the region's rich heritage.
