January 11 Council Highlights

Grey County Council met on January 11, 2024, in the Council Chamber and virtually on Zoom. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. Recordings of the meetings can be found on Grey County’s YouTube Channel.

County Council

  • Council accepted the minutes of the December 8 and December 15 Special Committee of the Whole budget meetings. December 8   December 15
  • Council accepted the minutes of the December 14 County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings.  Council  Committee
  • Council received the minutes of the October 27 Board of Health meeting. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra gave a verbal update noting the province is reviewing public health standards to clarify roles and responsibilities of public health and is supporting the voluntary merger between existing public health units. Dr. Arra also spoke about respiratory illnesses circulating in the community noting there are some active outbreaks but the numbers are declining. Dr. Arra encouraged community members to stay home when they are feeling unwell. Minutes
  • Council passed the annual budget by-law, setting the estimated revenues and expenses for the year. Before passing the budget, council discussed and removed $10,000 in new funding for the Grey Bruce Hospice. The 2024 budget is set at $269 million. Budget  By-Law

Committee of the Whole

  • Council received a road safety presentation from the Kimberly Safety Group. Dr. Martha Rogers and Peter French shared statistics, spoke about the Vision Zero road safety philosophy and encouraged Grey County to apply a safety lens when designing roads and services. Presentation
  • Council passed a motion on the floor directing transportation services staff to bring back a report detailing how safety is currently considered for Grey County roads and how it aligns with “Vision Zero”.
  • Grey County will offer the Municipality of West Grey $150,000 to purchase land in Durham for a new paramedic base at the proposed site of the new West Grey police station. Grey County will also enter into an agreement with West Grey to cost-share expenses related to servicing the new base.  Report
