January 23 Meeting Highlights

Grey County Council met January 23, 2025 in the council chamber and virtually on Zoom. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. A recording of the meeting can be found on the Grey County YouTube Channel.

County Council

  • Council accepted the minutes of the January 9 County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings. Council   Committee
  • Council accepted the minutes of the January 15 Long-Term Care Committee of Management meeting.  Minutes
  • Council congratulated Director Jennifer Cornell for being appointed the Vice Chair of the Board for AdvantAge Ontario.
  • Council showed appreciation to staff for their efforts in continue to deliver services during the challenging winter weather, highlighting transportation staff, housing staff, paramedics and others.

Committee of the Whole

  • Council directed staff to prepare a report examining the structure of the committee of the whole and committee structure.
  • Council received a delegation from Bruce Power Chief Operating Officer James Scongack. Mr. Scongack provided a verbal update on refurbishment, the Bruce C project, and the recent celebration of two years producing medical isotopes at the site. Mr. Scongack also presented 2023-2024 Warden Brian Milne with a commemorative plaque and thanked him for his leadership during the previous two terms.
  • Council received an update on the Rowe’s Lane project which is redeveloping and expanding an affordable housing site in Dundalk. Council approved moving forward with additional architectural services to help the project qualify for provincial funding. The project is looking to increase the number of affordable units at the site from 11 up to 40. The additional services are budgeted at $154,500.  Report
  • Council received an update from Warden Matrosovs and staff on the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference held January 19-21. The conference was a great opportunity to learn about ROMA’s advocacy work, take in presentations and panels on key rural issues, and meet with provincial ministries to discuss local challenges. Grey County participated in two positive delegations, one with the Ministry of Health and one with the Ministry of Transportation.  Presentation
  • Councillor McQueen provided notice he will bring a motion to the next meeting requesting Council restore funding for the plowing of a parking lot in Markdale which is used as a loading and unloading area by snowmobilers accessing the CP Rail Trail.
