March 9 Meeting Highlights

Grey County Council met on Thursday, March 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chamber. The council meeting was followed by a session of committee of the whole.

Grey County is piloting a committee of the whole meeting structure until June, 2017. Highlights of the day’s meetings are below.

County Council

  • Council adopted the meeting minutes from February 23. Council  Committee
  • Council adopted a by-law for a land lease agreement with Owen Sound and Miller Paving Limited to reroute a section of the CP Rail Trail. By-law
  • Council adopted a by-law for an official plan amendment in Georgian Bluffs. By-law

Committee of the Whole

Reports presented during Committee of the Whole are discussed by all members of Grey County Council for direction and endorsement. Resolutions passed at Committee of the Whole will be presented at the next session of Grey County Council where they will be formally endorsed and come into effect.

  • County staff spoke to council about recent awards that have been won by the tourism department and Grey Roots.
  • Philip Englishman, co-chair of the event CF Snowbirds Celebrate Bruce County and Canada’s 150th Birthday, shared details of the Wednesday June 21st event at the Saugeen Municipal Airport. He asked the County to sponsor the event  and  invited the tourism department to bring a booth.
  • Council received the 2016 Treasurer’s Statement on council pay and expenses. Report
  • Council will award a tender for hot mix paving and a culvert replacement on Grey Road 18 for $2.9 million. Report
  • Grey County will purchase a six-year licence for software to help manage mobile devices remotely. Report
  • Some Grey County roads have alternative names, such as the Agnes Macphail Road (Grey Road 9). New sign tabs will added to the existing route markers when they need to be replaced. Report
  • The County will created an RFP to study the Grey County quarry. The budget is $60,000. The RFP will be brought back to Council. Report
  • Municipal access agreements have been revised to make it easier for telecom providers to install cables along Grey County roads. The change hopes to make the County more attractive for broadband expansion. Report
  • The County will purchase new software to enhance strategic planning and tracking of projects and initiatives. The software will improve efficiency and make information publicly available. Report
  • Grey County will put out a five-year purchasing tender for new ambulances. Report
  • Paramedic response times will be submitted to the province. Grey is meeting almost all of its targets, missing one by only 0.5%. Report
