May 23 Meeting Highlights

Grey County Council met on May 23, 2024, in the Council Chamber and virtually on Zoom. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. Recordings of the meetings can be found on Grey County’s YouTube Channel.

County Council

  • Council accepted the minutes of the May 9 County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings.  Council  Committee
  • May 19-25 is both Paramedic Services Week and Public Works Week and Warden Milne thanked staff for their dedication.
  • Grey County Councillor and Town of The Blue Mountains Mayor Andrea Matrosovs has received the Ontario Member of the Year Award from the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative for her contributions to the organization and its mission of promoting access to clean, safe and affordable water for residents of the basin.

Committee of the Whole

  • Council voted to update the current mileage reimbursement policy and adopt the Canada Revenue Agency reasonable rate. Report
  • Grey County will purchase land in Durham from West Grey for a new paramedic services base. The new base will be efficiently located beside the proposed West Grey Police Services station near the Durham hospital. Staff will finalize a cost sharing agreement with West Grey for servicing the property and will issue a tender to hire a contractor to complete the design and construction of the base.  Report
  • Council discussed the announced transfer of in-patient beds out of the Durham hospital and closure of the emergency department at night. Council passed a motion from the floor directing the Warden to request an immediate meeting with Minister of Health to discuss the issue.
  • Grey County will request six delegations at the upcoming Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in August. Five of the requests relate to healthy rural communities and some will include participation from Bruce County on shared concerns. Grey County will also ask for a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation to discuss Highway 26 and long-term planning for alternate route considerations in the area.
