October 12 Meeting Highlights
Grey County Council met on Thursday, October 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the council chambers. The council meeting was immediately followed by a session of committee of the whole.
County Council
- Council adopted the minutes of the September 28 county council and committee of the whole meetings. Council Committee
Committee of the Whole
- Two thirds of councillors are interested in switching back to a standing committee governance structure. Council switched to a committee of the whole governance structure at the start of 2017. Staff will bring back a report with details of moving back to the standing committee structure.
- Grey County, in partnership with Georgian College, the City of Owen Sound, the Bluewater District School Board and the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board, are seeking support from the province to transform the empty Sydenham School property into a regional skills training, trades and innovation centre. The goal is for the centre to strengthen the local workforce by providing the skills training needed for careers in Grey and Bruce County. Report
- Grey County approved a pay equity agreement with OPSEU Local 266 employees at Grey Gables. Report
- Beginning in 2018, funding for Ontario Early Years Centres and Family Centres in Ontario will be delivered by the Ministry of Education. Council directed staff to move forward with a service agreement with the Ministry. Report
- Grey County will hold a public meeting to discuss an Official Plan amendment about severance for a surplus farm dwelling in Georgian Bluffs. Report
- Grey County may be eligible for funding through the Municipal Greenhouse Gas Challenge Fund. Funding would be put towards the current renovation of the Administration Building. Grey County is required to create a greenhouse gas reduction plan to be eligible. Staff will bring back a report with details about a recommended project plan.
