October 25 Meeting Highlights
Grey County Council met on Thursday, October 25 at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chamber. The council meeting was immediately followed by a session of committee of the whole. A recording of this meeting can be found on the County’s YouTube Channel.
County Council
- Council accepted the minutes of the October 11 council and committee of the whole meetings. Council Committee
- Council adopted the new Official Plan which will now be sent off to the Province for final approval. Council discussed the timelines moving forward and applauded staff for their work preparing the plan and engaging with the public for more than two years with the Recolour Grey project. Committee of the Whole
- Grey County will form a joint municipal accessibility advisory committee. A joint committee will provide a more consistence approach to accessibility across the County. Participation by local municipalities will be voluntary. Report
- Grey County will continue to invest in the Municipal 511 public information mapping system. Staff demonstrated the Municipal511 system to show how it improved on previous processes for closing roads. Bruce Power has purchased the license for the County for 2018 as part of an interoperability project. The County will pay the cost moving forward, which will open the service to all local municipalities. Report
- Council heard an update on the New to Grey initiative. Staff outlined what has been learned from the project over the past year, such as the benefits of attracting newcomers, what the challenges are and how we can retain them. Presentation
- The County will issue a public tender to purchase two regular tandem trucks and two sophisticated “roll-off” tandem trucks for transportations services. Report
- Grey County is updating maintenance standards and transportation services protocols to reflect provincial changes to road maintenance regulations. The new changes impact winter maintenance of roads and paved shoulders used for cycling. Grey County cannot reasonably maintain paved shoulders to meet winter standards. After getting legal advice, staff recommended closing paved shoulders to cycling in the winter. Council deferred a decision and asked staff to bring back further information to the next meeting. - Council supported an addendum to a plan of subdivision in Durham (242 residential units). The developer has altered to plan to acknowledge feedback on the initial application. Report
- Council received a proposed plan of subdivision for 98 residential units in Hanover. A public meeting will be held in Hanover on November 5. Report
- Council received a proposed plan of subdivision for 101 residential units in Dundalk. A future public meeting will be scheduled to discuss this proposal. Report
- Council received a proposed plan of subdivision for 34 residential lots in the Town of the Blue Mountains. A future public meeting will be scheduled to discuss this proposal. Report
- Council received a proposed plan of subdivision for 38 residential lots in the Town of the Blue Mountains (Lora Bay Phase 4). A future public meeting will be scheduled to discuss this proposal. Report
Good News and Celebrations
- Warden Halliday thanked staff for organizing the Warden’s Banquet and thanks council for attending the celebration.
- Ardiel Farms will be one of three farms in Canada featured in a new documentary series called Real Farm Lives. The document can be found at www.realfarmlives.ca.
