Positive Test Result – Staff Member – Grey Gables Long-Term Care Home
On May 17, 2020, Grey Bruce Public Health received a positive COVID-19 lab report for a staff member in Grey Gables long-term care home. This positive test result was received as part of universal testing in the long-term care facility.
Public Health reached the individual on May 17, 2020, and they are in self-isolation at their place of residence. The long-term care home has been notified as well.
The sample from the first result is being re-tested. Also, a second and third test are being completed to rule in/out the initial positive result.
All outbreak protocols, case management and contact tracing activities are in place to ensure safety while we wait for confirmation.
All staff, residents, and family have been notified.
The results of the universal testing at Grey Gables Long-Term Care Home to date are:
- 94/95 staff tested negative, 1/95 staff are positive (pending retesting confirmation)
- 67/68 residents tested negative – 1 test being redone as it was reported invalid
An outbreak declaration will be made if the positive result is confirmed. The results of these new tests are expected on May 18th or 19th.
“We’re taking this positive test result seriously. Physical distancing strategies and intense infection control protocols are already in place to prevent transmissions in the home,” said Jennifer Cornell, Grey County’s director of long-term care. “We appreciate Public Health’s guidance as we face this challenge and wait for the results of the second round of testing. We’re thankful all other tests of our Grey Gables residents and staff have been negative.”
