Protecting Long-Term Care Residents and Staff as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Our region is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases as is much of the Province, with a 65% increase today oover yesterday. This surge has impacted our home in Durham (Rockwood Terrace) where we are currently managing a COVID-19 outbreak.

We have assessed the situation in our homes and the local community and have made the difficult decision to implement restrictions that are necessary to keep our residents and staff safe.

New Restrictions and Enhanced Protocols for Homes Not in Outbreak

  • We are suspending all outings beginning on December 26. Residents leaving the home today or tomorrow will be required to isolate when they return after an outing and will be required to complete rapid testing and PCR testing.
  • We are suspending all indoor and outdoor general visits at our homes.

Designated Care Partners (DCPs) may still visit residents in the home, up to two per resident at a time. Window visits and virtual visits remain available for Grey Gables and Lee Manor residents and can be booked online through www.grey.ca/long-term-care. Essential visits (critical illness or palliative) are still permitted.

We realize the timing of these new restrictions is difficult, but we need to do what we must to protect our residents and our workforce during this challenging time. Managing outbreaks is challenging for everyone involved and keeping our staff healthy is critical to  providing care to your loved ones. We continue to work closely with our partners at public health and the safety and wellbeing of our residents and our staff remains our priority.

We will continue to provide updates to the community as the situation progresses.
