Respiratory Outbreak Declared at Grey Gables
December 13, 2024
Last night, Public Health declared a respiratory outbreak on the Maple Lane home area at Grey Gables. Test results have returned identifying the infectious agent as parainfluenza (not to be confused with influenza, but it can cause upper respiratory symptoms like sore throat, cough, and shortness of breath). The symptomatic residents are isolating and receiving care.
Enhanced infection control protocols are in place and the following steps have been implemented:
- Increased surveillance, and enhanced infection prevention and control measures including audits and hand hygiene audits.
- All staff are following respiratory outbreak protocols and wearing the appropriate PPE as required.
- Universal masking (surgical mask) is required for all staff and visitors on the Maple Lane home area.
- Residents in isolation are limited to 1 Designated Care Partner (DCP).
- General visitors are reduced to one (1) per resident visit on the Maple Lane home area.
The safety and wellbeing of our residents, families, and staff is our focus. As a reminder, please refrain from visiting the home if you are feeling unwell. If you require additional information, please contact the home at 519-986-3010.
