Rockwood Terrace COVID-19 Outbreak Update Declared Over September 7
September 7 Update
Today, we are pleased to report that Grey Bruce Public Health has declared the Rockwood Terrace 3rd Floor COVID-19 outbreak over. We would like to thank Grey Bruce Public Health for their assistance in managing the outbreak. The teamwork at Rockwood Terrace has been remarkable, and I thank you all for your dedication and commitment as we managed the COVID-19 outbreak.
We continue to focus on the safety of our residents, families, and staff. Infection prevention and control measures remain in place. As a precaution, we will continue with the following protocols:
• Hand hygiene audits
• Daily rapid antigen testing for all staff, students, support workers, volunteers, Designated Care Partners and indoor visitors.
Visiting has now resumed on all home areas for Designated Care Partners and for general visitors who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on all home areas (Max of 4). Unvaccinated visitors are required to wear N95 masks when visiting, the most appropriate size will be provided by the home.

September 1 Update
Grey Bruce Public Health has declared the COVID-19 Outbreak on 2nd Floor over, and de-escalation measures have been implemented. Visiting for Designated Care Partners, and general visitors who have received 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, have resumed to a maximum of four (4) per visit on the 2nd Floor.
Thank you for your ongoing support and patience as we continue to manage and contain the 3 Floor COVID-19 outbreak. Today, we have the following information to share:
3rd Floor Information:
- 19 active resident cases; 11 resolved; 1 death
- 19 active staff cases, 8 resolved; unconfirmed if all cases are linked to outbreak.
- All active cases and high risk contacts are isolating in their rooms.
- In-room meal service is being provided.
- All 3rd Floor staff are wearing N95 masks and eye protection.
- DCP visits are limited to one visitor per room, and are required to wear N95 masks and eye protection which will be provided upon arrival.
- General visits are suspended for the 3rd Floor.

August 30 Update
Rockwood Terrace remains in outbreak on the 2nd and 3rd floor. Testing continues as we work to quickly identify any new cases of COVID-19 in our residents and staff. We continue to work closely with Public Health to manage the outbreaks.
Today, we have the following information to share:
2nd Floor Information:
- No new cases
- 3 active resident cases; 21 resolved
- High risk contacts are isolating in their rooms.
- In-room meal service is being provided.
- DCP visits are limited to one visitor per room
3rd Floor Information:
- All PCR test results from Saturday’s testing have returned negative.
- The Rockwood Team has utilized their ONEID machine for additional testing, identifying 4 new positive resident cases.
- 27 active cases; 2 resolved; 1 death
- All active cases and high risk contacts are isolating in their rooms
- In-room meal service is being provided.
- DCP visits are limited to one visitor per room.
- All 3rd floor residents will be PCR tested on Thursday.
General Information:
- The Medical Director is in the home on a regular basis and is assessing residents' health status, as well as attending daily outbreak meetings.
- 11 active staff cases, 7 resolved; unconfirmed if all cases are linked.
- General visits are suspended for the home.
- DCPs are required to wear N95 masks and eye protection which will be provided upon arrival.
- All staff are wearing N95 masks and eye protection.
- Residents are being encouraged to wear masks as tolerated.
- Infection Prevention and Control measures are being strictly followed.

August 19 Update
Thank you for your continued support as we manage the outbreak. Test results have returned identifying additional COVID-19 cases on the second floor.
The summary for today is as follows:
- 14 active resident cases; 4 resolved
- 8 positive cases are isolating in the auditorium.
- 6 positive cases are isolating on the 2nd floor.
- High risk close contacts are isolating in their rooms.
- The staff case related to the outbreak is resolved. Public Health is investigating a potential link to a second staff case.
- All residents on the West Wing of 2nd floor continue isolating.
- In-room meal service is being provided for all 2nd floor residents.
- All staff are wearing N95 masks, eye protection, and additional PPE as required on the affected home area.
- General visits are suspended for 2nd floor.
- Designated Care Partner (DCP) visits are limited to one (1) visitor per resident on 2nd floor. DCPs are required to wear N95 mask and eye protection which will be provided upon arrival.
Staff continue to work extremely hard to control the outbreak however our staffing levels are currently strained. It is appreciated if Designated Care Partners are able to arrange their visits to provide additional support to loved ones around meal times. We thank you for your ongoing support.
August 22 Update
The suspected COVID-19 outbreak on the 3rd floor at Rockwood Terrace is now confirmed. We continue to manage the 3rd floor outbreak separately from the outbreak on the 2nd floor to help prevent spread between home areas. We are dealing with a highly transmissible variant or variants of the virus and we continue to work closely with our partners in Public Health to manage the outbreaks.
In addition, we have the following details to share.
2nd Floor Information:
- 14 active cases; 8 resolved
- High risk contacts are isolating in their rooms.
- In-room meal Service is being provided.
- DCP visits are limited to one visitor per room.
- All 2nd floor residents will have a PCR test on Thursday.
3rd Floor Information:
- We're sad to share one resident has passed away from complications related to COVID-19.
- 17 active cases; 0 resolved
- All residents are isolating in their rooms.
- In-room meal service is being provided.
- DCP visits are limited to one visitor per room.
- All 3rd floor residents will have a PCR test today.
General Information:
- 11 staff currently off related to COVID-19; unconfirmed if all cases are linked.
- General visits are suspended for the home.
- DCPs are required to wear N95 masks and eye protection which will be provided upon arrival.
- All staff are wearing N95 masks and eye protection.
- Residents are being encouraged to wear masks as tolerated.
- Staffing levels continue to be a challenge. We are grateful for all team members who are going above and beyond.
- With increased staffing challenges, DCPs are encouraged to come in and provide support to loved ones if they are able.
- Outbreak management meetings are being held daily.
- The COVID-19 unit in the auditorium is being dismantled due to the scope of the outbreak.
- Extra care and caution was used when transporting residents out of the auditorium and no residents who were testing positive were moved in with roommates who were not sick.
- Infection Prevention and Control measures are being strictly followed.

We have received confirmation from Grey Bruce Public Health that the second floor of Rockwood Terrace is in a confirmed COVID-19 Outbreak. There are currently 2 positive resident cases, and 2 high risk contacts that are isolating and receiving care.
The following steps are in place:
- Enhanced monitoring for new symptoms in all residents and staff in the outbreak area, including twice a day screening with temperature checks for 2nd floor residents.
- Weekly infection prevention and control audits, and additional Hand Hygiene Audits have been implemented.
- Enhanced cleaning and disinfection practices.
- Cohort dining procedures have been implemented.
- High risk close contacts are isolating in their rooms, in room meal service has been implemented.
- All second floor social and group activities have been suspended.
- All staff are wearing N95 mask, eye protection, and additional PPE as required on the affected home area.
- General visits have been suspended for 2nd floor.
- Designated Care Partner visits are limited to one (1) visitor per resident on 2nd floor.
- HEPA filter units have been strategically placed on both home areas to maximize air quality.
- All staff are wearing N95 mask, eye protection, and additional PPE as required on the affected home area.
We will provide COVID-19 outbreak updates on Tuesdays and Fridays, unless there is an significant change. Yesterday, Public Health placed the Second Floor of Rockwood Terrace in a suspect COVID-19 Outbreak. There is currently 1 confirmed resident PCR test. Residents that were considered close contacts are isolating, and have been tested for COVID-19. These results have returned negative. Close contacts will be retested on day 5 as per the current COVID-19 protocols.
In addition, public health has advised general visits are suspended for those in isolation. Designated Care Partners (DCPs) may continue to visit.
Enhanced infection control protocols are in place as we take swift action to halt the spread of the virus. We are working closely with our Public Health partners, and the safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff is our highest priority.
In response, we are taking the following steps:
• All staff are wearing N95 mask, eye protection, and additional PPE as required on the affected home area.
• Designated Care Partner visits are limited to one (1) visitor per resident in isolation.
• Additional Hand Hygiene Audits have been implemented.
