Rockwood Terrace Influenza Outbreak Declared Over on 3rd Floor

Update February 19, 2023 - The Influenza outbreak has been declared over. We are thankful for our partners at Grey Bruce Public Health for their collaboration and support as we managed the outbreak. We are blessed to have such an outstanding team who are committed to maintaining resident’s safety and wellbeing throughout these events. Due to our observant team, we were able to quickly identify symptoms and prevent further spread using necessary infection prevention and control measures.

Enhanced masking measures (universal masking - surgical mask) remain in place for non-outbreak situations. All staff, students, support workers, and volunteers are required to wear a mask when in resident areas indoors. We strongly encourage visitors and caregivers wear a mask in resident areas indoors except when with a resident in the resident's room or when eating or drinking with a resident in communal spaces. Masks will be available upon entering the home.

The safety of our residents, families, and staff remains our primary focus, and we will continue with regular infection prevention and control audits and hand hygiene audits. Please refrain from visiting the home if you are feeling unwell for any reason. If you require additional information, please contact the home at 519-369-6035.

On February 8th, Public Health declared an Influenza outbreak on the 3rd floor home area at Rockwood Terrace. There are currently two residents experiencing symptoms, and test results have returned positive for Influenza A. The symptomatic residents are isolating and receiving care. The home’s Acting Medical Director has been consulted, and residents who have consented will be receiving an antiviral medication. We are working closely with Public Health and continue to monitor the situation.

The safety and wellbeing of our residents, families, and staff is our focus. To manage the outbreaks, the following measures are in place:

  • Increased surveillance and enhanced infection prevention and control measures, along with infection prevention and control audits, and hand hygiene audits.
  • All staff are following outbreak protocols and wearing the appropriate PPE as required.
  • Universal masking is required for all staff and visitors on all home areas.
  • Designated Care Partners are reduced to one (1) DCP per resident visit for residents in isolation and additional PPE will be provided.

As a reminder, please refrain from visiting the home if you are feeling unwell. If you require additional information, please contact the home at 519-369-6035.
