Rockwood Terrace Respiratory Outbreak Declared on 3rd Floor

Update March 9, 2023: The respiratory outbreak has been declared over on the 3rd floor home area at Rockwood Terrace. We would like to thank Grey Bruce Public Health for their assistance in managing the outbreak. We would also like to thank the team at Rockwood Terrace for their remarkable teamwork, dedication, and commitment. The team quickly identified symptoms and prevented further spread using ongoing infection prevention and control measures.

The safety of our residents, families, and staff remains are primary focus. As a precaution, we will continue with the following protocols:

  • Regular infection prevention and control audits
  • Hand hygiene audits
  • Daily screening and rapid antigen testing for all staff, students, support workers, volunteers, designated care partners, and indoor visitors.

As a reminder, please continue to follow the 3 Ws: Wash your hands frequently; Watch your distance (ideally 6 feet); and Wear masks correctly. Please refrain from visiting the home if you are feeling unwell. If you require additional information, please contact the home at 519-369-6035.

 


Update February 23, 2023:  There are currently 10 active resident cases, with 1 resident case resolved. Symptomatic residents are isolating and receiving care. Increased surveillance and enhanced infection prevention & control measures are in place. General visits on the 3rd floor home area have been suspended. Designated Care Partners are reduced to one (1) DCP per resident visit for residents who are isolating. As a reminder, please do not visit if you are not feeling well for any reason. 


February 18th, 2023: Public Health has declared a respiratory outbreak on the 3rd floor home area at Rockwood Terrace. There are currently three residents experiencing respiratory symptoms, they are isolating and receiving care. The residents have been tested for COVID-19, as well as other respiratory viruses. Test results have returned negative for COVID-19, and the virus has been identified as Rhinovirus (common cold).As a reminder, please do not visit if you are not feeling well for any reason. 

We are working with our Public Health partners and monitoring the situation closely. The home has activated their outbreak protocols and the following enhancements are in place to help manage the outbreak:

  • Increased surveillance, and enhanced infection prevention and control measures
  • All staff are following respiratory outbreak protocols and wearing the appropriate PPE as required.
  • Designated Care Partners are reduced to one (1) DCP per resident visit for residents in isolation.  DCPs are required to wear their masks at all times during their visit and will be provided the appropriate PPE.
