Rockwood Terrace respiratory outbreak declared over

Update March 17

On March 16th, Public Health declared the respiratory outbreak over on the 2nd floor home area at Rockwood Terrace. We would like to thank our team members for their unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our residents. We truly appreciate the support from our designated care partners and families. Grey Bruce Public Health were valuable contributors to the management of the outbreak, and we are thankful for their guidance and assistance.

The safety of our residents, families, and staff remains our primary focus, and we will continue with regular infection prevention and control audits and hand hygiene audits. With various respiratory viruses circulating in the community, Rockwood Terrace will continue with universal masking (surgical mask) at this time.  Please refrain from visiting the home if you are feeling unwell for any reason. If you require additional information, please contact the home at 519-369-6035.

On February 25th, Public Health declared a respiratory outbreak on the 2nd Floor home area at Rockwood Terrace. There are currently three residents experiencing symptoms, with test results pending. In an effort to prevent further spread, the symptomatic residents are isolating and receiving care.  We are working with our Public Health partners and closely monitoring the situation.

Enhanced infection control protocols are in place as we take swift action to halt the spread of the virus. In response, we are taking the following steps:

  • Increased surveillance, and enhanced infection prevention and control measures including audits, and hand hygiene audits.

  • All staff are following respiratory outbreak protocols and wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.

  • Home wide universal masking (surgical mask) is required for all staff and visitors.

  • Surgical masks or N95 masks are required when entering an isolation room.

    • PPE signage is posted at the resident’s room.

  • Residents in isolation are limited to 1 Designated Care Partner.

  • General visitors are encouraged to postpone non-essential visits.

The safety and wellbeing of our residents, families, and staff is our focus. As a reminder, please refrain from visiting the home if you are feeling unwell. If you require additional information, please contact the home at 519-369-6035.
